Various programs for teachers and school leaders

Objectives

To promote and implement modern and activating teaching methods in German schools.

Description

Over a decade ago the Thüringer Institut für Lehrerfortbildung, Lehrplanentwicklung und Mediën (THILLM) in Bad Berka decided to invite APS for a long term and sustainable cooperation. The focus of this cooperation was to create better opportunities for teachers and school leaders in Thüringen (one of the German “Länder” or states) to practice modern approaches toward teaching and learning in their schools.

This cooperation lasts until today, although content, format and frequency of course has changed over the years. THILLM now has grown into a full bodied school support agency, that already has expanded its scope to countries in Eastern Europe.

Inspired by this example similar institutions in Hamburg (LILS) and Brandenburg (LISUM) also have invited APS International to support their staff in their efforts to initiate innovative practice in German schools.

In Hamburg Hans Pouw and Mrs. Truus de Haan have begun to work in a series of seminars with local school leaders. Topics included models for (school) organizational development, conceptual leadership and professional cultures in school.

In Brandenburg Jan van Huijkelom and Karel Vlak performed a “train the thainers”-program that covers topics like multiple intelligences, learning typologies, cooperative learning and the learner as a coach and a trainer.

Funding

The governments of Hamburg and Brandenburg.
