The topic of this thesis is the low educational output in Surinam considered against the background of educational developments in the past decades. At the same time the possibilities on how to increase educational output are being discussed. The possibilities are based on scientific insights, experiences and results in western and developing countries with in- and outside schoolprogrammes in order to improve the achievements of pupils.
The results of the effects of the programme are being described; that means a significant lower number of repeaters and a significant improvement on the achievements of pupils. This study is the result of close cooperation between the University of Amsterdam and that of Surinam. This book will interest those who want to look at repeating and underachievement in a wider international perspective. And for those who want to study the possibilities on how to improve educational output in primary eduation in developing countries.
