The conference "Retention reconsidered: causes, consequences and remedies" was held in October 2001 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. If offered an opportunity to learn from experiences in Suriname, Brazil, Ghana and The Netherlands. The specialists invited there, presented reviews of a wide selection of international research on the issue of retention and its consequences, but also case studies that assisted the participants to enter a debate about strategies on micro and macro level.
